Some problems only silicone can solve. PerformaSil low VOC silicone water-based elastomers for formulators at ACS 2026

The wall that has to breathe and stay waterproof. The exterior that can’t afford to chalk. The substrate that moves, and the coating that has to move with it. The anti-graffiti surface that can’t be sacrificial. The weather barrier that has to be both elastomeric and vapor-permeable. Every formulator has run into the places where acrylics, latex, and standard water-based systems quietly run out of runway — and where solvent-based silicone is the obvious answer until you factor in VOCs, regulatory friction, or the people on the line who’d rather not be wearing respirators.

That’s the gap PerformaSil® was built to close. And at the American Coatings Show 2026 in Indianapolis, it’s the conversation we most want to have.

Come find us at Booth #2881, May 5–7, at the Indiana Convention Center.

Built for formulators first

PerformaSil® is ICD’s platform of silicone water-based elastomers (SWBE). We designed it for formulators — the people taking raw materials and turning them into the coatings that go out the door to projects, jobs, and end users. You can use it as a co-resin to graft silicone performance onto a binder system you already know, or as a sole binder when you want to build a full silicone architecture. Ambient-cure or bake. One component.

What it brings to a formulation, without the usual trade-offs:

  • Vapor permeability — so assemblies breathe and substrates don’t rot
  • UV and weather resistance — so exterior finishes don’t chalk, crack, or yellow
  • Elongation and elastomeric behavior — so coatings flex with the substrate instead of cracking at the first thermal cycle
  • Water and oxidative resistance — so real-world performance matches the spec sheet
  • A water-based package — so VOCs stay low, crews stay safe, and jurisdictional compliance gets easier

Translated into business terms: PerformaSil® lets a formulator take on projects and specifications they’d otherwise have to turn down, defend sustainability claims that would otherwise require re-engineering a whole line, and differentiate on chemistry instead of price.

What you can build with it

The range of the platform is wide. A partial list of what formulators have used PerformaSil® to build:

Waterproofing & air and weather barriers. Breathable, elastomeric coatings for building envelopes that have to move without leaking and dry without trapping vapor inside the assembly.

Roof coatings. Long-life reflective and restorative systems that shrug off UV, cycle through freeze-thaw, and seal the small leaks that otherwise become capital-expense emergencies.

Anti-graffiti coatings. PerformaSil® 200 is the finished example — non-sacrificial, multi-surface, cleanable in one pass — but the platform also gives formulators the starting point to build their own.

Sealers and protective coatings. Substrate-first chemistry that protects what’s underneath so the rest of the system can do its job.

Architectural paints and elastomeric finishes. When standard binders can’t deliver the durability or weatherability a project needs.

The common thread: places where silicone performance is the right answer and a solvent-based system isn’t an option.

And yes, we also make the finished coatings

Secondarily — and we mean secondarily — ICD also ships finished coatings built on the PerformaSil® platform. Waterproofing, roof coatings, anti-graffiti (PerformaSil® 200), sealers. If you’d rather benchmark the chemistry against a finished product before you formulate with it, or if a project needs an off-the-shelf answer right now, we’ve got it.

But if you’re a formulator, the more interesting conversation is usually about the platform itself — what you can do with it that you can’t do with what’s currently on your shelf. That’s the conversation we’re at ACS to have.

Who we are, briefly

ICD High Performance Coatings + Chemistries is an independent manufacturer based in Ridgefield, Washington. For more than 35 years, we’ve built water-based coatings and the co-resins behind them. We’re formulators ourselves — which is why the platform is designed the way it is, and why the chemists at the booth will be more comfortable talking chemistry than running a sales pitch.

You may also know us from OPACI-COAT-300®, our water-based silicone glass coating that architects have specified around the world. It’ll be at the booth too, alongside the PerformaSil® family.

Bring us a formulation

The American Coatings Show is three days in one building with the whole industry. We’d rather spend it sitting down with formulators and chemists who have a real problem on their desk than handing out brochures.

If you’re working on a formulation that needs silicone properties but can’t carry solvents — or a system where acrylics or latex are losing out to weather, UV, or vapor issues — bring it. We’ll put samples in your hands, talk through where PerformaSil® fits and where it doesn’t, and if we can help you build something better, we will.

One silicone platform. Your formulation.
