Who are we?

Kris Vockler grew up around the coatings industry, watching her parents work in a field that, at the time, often carried a heavy environmental cost. From a young age, she saw the impact that traditional chemical processes could have on the world around them – and she made a personal commitment that her future in the industry would look different. What began as an early awareness became a lifelong motivation: to create coatings that performed exceptionally well without compromising the environment or human health.
That conviction shapes ICD Coatings to this day. Under Kris’s leadership, the company prioritizes sustainable chemistry, thoughtful formulation, and responsible manufacturing practices. Every product is developed with consideration for its entire lifespan – how it’s made, how it’s used, and what it leaves behind. The goal isn’t simply to meet environmental standards, but to move beyond them, proving that high-performance coatings can also reflect a deep respect for the planet.
Kris also believes that meaningful progress happens through collaboration. ICD works closely with architects, fabricators, contractors, chemists, and specifiers to understand real-world challenges and develop solutions that are both effective and environmentally responsible. This approach has helped build a company culture grounded in learning, openness, and long-term thinking – where support isn’t a tagline, but a natural extension of the relationships they build.
Today, ICD Coatings stands as a continuation of Kris’s early promise: a place where innovation and environmental stewardship work together, and where every new product is an opportunity to make the industry better than it was before.
Kris’s leadership extends beyond running a coatings company – she is widely recognized as a thought leader who champions connection, inclusion, and responsible progress within the industry. She believes that better outcomes come from open communication and shared understanding across the entire coatings ecosystem.
She has also built ICD Coatings with intention, surrounding herself with a team of skilled, dedicated professionals who bring deep experience in formulation, application, production, and customer support. Kris is committed to creating an environment where people can excel, contribute their best work, and feel part of something meaningful. This collective expertise – and the trust she places in it – is a defining strength of the company. Together, they continue to advance sustainable coating technologies while supporting the people and industries who rely on them.

ICD’s core value of growth mindset embodies not only the growth of our employees, but also to further the community we live and work in. We participate in several programs, from volunteering as a company to scholarships in chemistry.
We believe it’s our responsibility to be problem solvers to help the environment and our community. Each year, ICD takes part in various volunteer opportunities and over the years has ranged from charity home construction to helping families in need.
Scholarships
As part of our philanthropic efforts we feel compelled to shout about is our scholarship efforts and partnership with the Chemistry Department at Portland State University – a near and dear institution to ICD, which our CEO Kris Vockler is an alumni. Kris focuses her philanthropy efforts not only in chemistry but providing role models and access for minorities in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).

Larry D. Vockler Scholarship
This scholarship was established to honor Larry Vockler, founder of ICD High Performance Coatings. The scholarship is awarded annually to two outstanding Sophomore Chemistry Majors, providing each with a $2,500 scholarship, and is intended to help promising students complete their studies. Larry Vockler Scholarship awards are administered in concert with the Office of Financial Aid. Students may apply for this scholarship – and search other scholarship opportunities – via the University’s Online Scholarship Application.

What’s next for ICD?
We’d usually say the sky’s the limit but we’re aiming higher than that.
